I probably should have posted this in Mangia Mangia! but I wasn't sure where to put it.
We love the Flax-O-Meal granola (especially the cinnamon nutrageous), but it is super expensive.
Anyone know how to duplicate this? I hate paying $8 a bag!!
hmm..TVP, sliced almonds, spices, flaxmeal I would think for starters?

Ingredients in the granola are Pecans, malitol, canola oil, almonds, wheat bran, flax seed meal, oats, soy protein isolate (non-gmo), flavorings, baking soda, salt, sucralose.
I can't even begin to figure out how much of what!!:(

She has two granola knock-offs. Let me know if you'd like to see them. :)

:) No problem. :)
The first one is a lot lower. Second one might be for OWL. Both from Dana Carpender's 500 Low Carb Recipes
Evelyn's Granola
1 C textured vegetable protein granules (available at health food stores)
1 tsp cinnamon
2 TBSP Splenda
1/2 C unsweetened coconut flakes
1/2 C chopped pecans
1/2 C chopped, sliced or slivered almonds
1. Combine textured protein granules, cinnamon, and Splenda in plastic or glass container large enough to hold all the ingredients
2. Spread the coconut, pecans and almonds on a cookie sheet and toast under broiler until coconut starts to brown. Remove from oven and cool.
3. Add toasted nuts to granule mixture, attach lid and shake to mix.
About ten servings of 1/4 C each with 9 grams of carb and 6 grams of fiber for a total of 3 grams usable carbs and 17 grams of protein. :)

Granola
2 1/2 C rolled oats
3/4 C sunflower seeds
3/4 C sesame seeds
2/3 C wheat germ
3/4 C flaked, unsweetened coconut
1/2 C chopped walnuts
1/2 C slivered almonds
1/2 C wheat bran
1/4 C flaxseeds
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 C Splenda
3/4 C vanilla flavoured whey protein powder
1/4 tsp blackstrap molasses
1/2 C canola oil
1. preheat oven to 250F
2. In large shallow roasting pan, combine oats, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, wheat germ, coconut, walnuts, almonds, bran, flaxseeds, cinnamon, Splenda, and protein powder, mixing well
3. Stir molasses into the canola oil; it won't really blend but will help distribute molasses more evenly. Pour mixture over dry ingredients and stir until uniformly distributed.
4. Place in oven and toast for an hour, stirring once or twice. Store in tightly covered container. Serve topped with cream or half and half.
About sixteen of 1/2 C, each with 21.8 grams of carb  and 6 grams of fiber for a total of 15.8 grams of usable fiber.
Hmmm...
I bet you could make this lower carb if you fiddled with it. :)

This sounds very good. I am so sick of eggs for breakfast , I need some other ideas. I will see if I can find the VPG.

It does sound good, doesn't it? I like making almond cereal too, but I keep forgetting to get almonds and protein powder.
Fur, I'm thinking you probably could. I'd just play with it. :) You're very welcome. It's a great little book. :)
