Well I knew we would be getting them, but my heart stopped when I saw the envelopes from a llawyers office. This is from the accident that DH and I had about 3 weeks ago. It was Dh's fault, he ran a red light and we got hit by a prisoner transport van. One of the prisoners has gotten a lawyer and is suing us. I don't know all of the details yet, they just sent us a letter asking us for the information from our auto insurance.
The thing that has me puzzled is that it is a female and I could have sworn the prisoners were men. I don't think they mix female and male prisoners when transporting or at any other time for that matter. I haven't gotten a copy of the police report yet because they won't let me do it by mail and I really don't want to drive 40 minutes to Camden to get it. They haven't even sent DH and tickets in the mail or anything so I am wondering what it going on.
I am going to forward the letters to our insurance company and I am sure I will find more letters in the mail from other lawyers in days to come. :(

Make sure you get them to your insurance carrier. there is a time limit on when they need to be answered. and please go get a copy of your police report. It's important to have all the information so that the claim can be properly investigated and evaluated.

I'm sure you aren't the only ones named in the lawsuit- the prisoner is probably suing everyone she can possibly claim is responsible, including the state and the county. Your insurance company will most likely be able to settle for the amount of your liability coverage without you ever having to set foot in a courtroom. The prisoner will be more interested in the deeper government pockets she can pick.

Denise, nothing is listed as to what she is suing for. The lawyer is just asking for our insurance information so I am sure you are right. I work for my township and I handle our litigation so I know how it works. I just would like to know what she is suing for. If she is a prisoner all of her medical coverage is handled by the County, if she was a prisoner she can't really sue me for last wages. Since I know the drill, I won't let this just go I will talk to my insurance company and put in my 2 cents. I am even questioning if she was even on the van that we hit. We got the notice in Friday's mail, I will be sending out to my insurance company today. You are probably right, she is going to be going after whomever she can.:(

I am even questioning if she was even on the van that we hit. Maybe it wasn't her- maybe it was her man and she's suing y'all for loss of consortium. ;)

Ya know, they didn't get the best of lawyers, I didn't receive the letters certified, so they don't have any proof that I ever received it. Not that I am going to ignore them, but you would think they would have sent the letters certified, I would have.
